In Indiana, you can't get paid to adjust a claim without a license.
Compliance is key. Indiana Public Adjuster Statute, IC 27-1-27-2

Countless public adjuster careers stall at the licensing exam. Our Indiana public adjuster training is built around that exam and doubles as Indiana property claims training: insurance law, policies, adjusting losses and building construction.
Practice exams, study materials and test-taking strategies matched to the Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI) requirements, taught by claims professionals using real losses they've settled. Class is interactive, so ask anything.
Our students don't just pass the exam. They build careers as public adjusters, grounded in continuous learning, professional integrity and client advocacy.
A public adjuster is a licensed professional who works for the policyholder, not the insurance company. You document the loss, prepare the estimate and negotiate with the insurer, so the policyholder receives the full settlement they are entitled to under their policy.
Public adjusters in Indiana usually work for a percentage of the claim settlement. Indiana sets no cap on that percentage, but your contract has to state the exact figure.
Being a licensed public adjuster in Indiana offers a unique advantage. As a public insurance adjuster, you work for the policyholder, not the insurance company. You assess the damage, document the loss, and negotiate the settlement they're entitled to.
It's the perfect role for people who enjoy helping everyday folks while earning a respectable income. Indiana has no continuing education requirement for public adjusters, so once you're licensed, your time goes to your clients. All it takes is clicking a button to join our Indiana public adjuster exam prep class!
Before you book the Indiana public adjuster exam, you request a Certificate of Test Eligibility from the Indiana Department of Insurance by emailing agentlicensing@idoi.in.gov. No pre-licensing course is required. Pearson VUE administers the Public Adjuster exam according to your selected date, time, and location, at test centers across Indiana. There's no online testing option.
An Indiana public adjuster license costs $50, plus the examination fee of $50. The exam gives you 60 questions in 60 minutes, and you need a scaled score of 70 to pass. That's one question a minute, so pacing matters as much as knowing the material.
You must meet some basic requirements to get your PA License. These include being at least 18 years old, living in Indiana, passing the exam, applying for the license through Sircon, paying the $50 license fee, and submitting a $10,000 surety bond no more than six months old. No fingerprints are required. Every license expires December 31 and renews for $50 plus your bond continuation, with no continuing education.
We know it seems like a lot, especially when you're new to the adjusting industry. Don't worry, because we'll help along every step of the way. Join our public adjuster classes now and mark your place as a public adjuster.
